They will meet a Manchester United team who are as yet unbeaten in the Premier League, and who destroyed Blackburn 7-1 in their last league outing. Since then, however, they have been humiliated 4-0 against West Ham in the Carling Cup, and were unconvincing in a 1-1 draw against Valencia in the Champions League. Arsenal will be hoping that the last two games are more than just a wobble, and will want to capitalize on that. Manchester United, on the other hand, will look to capitalize on Arsenal's inconsistency this season.
Key Players

Manchester United's Patrice Evra has fired the first shot in the war of words between the clubs, calling Arsenal a "training center" and dismissing their title hopes, regardless of the outcome on Monday. He will be tasked with marking Samir Nasri, Arsenal's in-form player and player-of-the-season so far. Nasri has been in scorching form, scoring 12 goals in 21 games this season, already matching his tally of the last two seasons combined. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has backed him to score, saying that he now has the "taste for scoring goals."

Wayne Rooney will be hoping to kick-start his return to form with a goal against Arsenal on Monday. Sir Alex Ferguson has backed him to score, after impressive performances against Blackburn and Valencia, despite not having scored an outfield goal for Manchester United since March.

Arsene Wenger will have a selection headache for the game, with all of his strikers back from injury and competing for a place in the starting line-up. Samir Nasri will undoubtedly start, and the form of Marouane Chamakh means that he should also start at the center of the attacking trio. Despite Arshavin misfiring in Arsenal's last game against Partizan Belgrade, the Russian is capable of magic, and in a game such as this, he cannot be dropped. That leaves Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott frustrated, despite the latter scoring an impressive goal in Arsenal 3-1 victory against Partizan. Robin Van Persie could yet start in an advanced midfield role, usually reserved for the injured Cesc Fabregas. Should Fabregas not recover in time for the game, Van Persie will be competing with Tomas Rosicky for that coveted position.

Sir Alex Ferguson will have to choose whether to Start Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov together up front, or leave one of them on the bench. Rooney will be hoping to end his goal drought, while Berbatov's erratic form means that it is difficult to know what to expect. Anderson will be expected to start in the middle, after a number of impressive performances.
Prediction

Arsenal have been erratic this season, whereas Manchester United have been consistent if not particularly impressive. But Arsenal's weakness lies in their defense. Laurent Koscielny has come under criticism from Arsenal fans in recent weeks, and if he starts, Manchester United will look to capitalize on his inexperience. Arsene Wenger may yet decide to start Johann Djourou instead, who would add pace, power and height to Arsenal's back line.

Manchester United, despite struggling to hit top form, should be too much at home for Arsenal's shaky backline. Their defense will be solid, with veterans Ferdinand and Vidic preventing Arsenal from creating many chances.

Prediction: Manchester United 2 - 1 Arsenal

Update: since this article was published, Manchester City have risen to second place in the table, level on points with Arsenal.
