90+3 min: That's your lot. We finish all square.

90+2 min: Neville lofts a hopeful ball towards Saha on the penalty spot but, under pressure, he can't do anything with it. The clock ticks down and we are heading to a replay.

90 min: Corner for Chelsea. Drogba comes over to take it after a spell of pretending to be injured. The Everton fans make their feelings known. You suspect Drogba couldn't give to figs. The corner comes to nothing.

88 min: Beckford is almost the hero, with Ivanovic the villain. The big defender sliced a clearance up and over his head to set Beckford in on goal, needing to strike it first time he connected well enough with a volley that was flying in until Cech got across to save. That might have been the last chance for either side, there isn’t much stoppage time to be played.

87 min: Baines, not for the first time this afternoon, gets the better of Bosingwa as the Chelsea man tried to skip round the back of him, seeing the ball out for a goal kick and snuffing out a dangerous looking Chelsea move.

86 min: Everton, too, are chasing a late goal with purpose, off goes Rodwell to be replaced by Beckford.

85 min: After bossing so much of this game Everton were inches away from going out of the cup. A speculative effort from Ramires beats Howard but not his left hand post.

84 min: Another substitution for Chelsea. On comes Mikel and off goes Lampard, who I had completely forgotten was on the pitch, such has been his lack of impact.

82 min: The game has become much more open since the equaliser. Neither side wants a replay.

81 min: More corner defending duties for the entire Chelsea team. Drogba clears one, then another soon after, but Everton continue to press.

79 min: Everton's 114th corner of the game lets Baines deliver in to the box again but this time Chelsea clear. Bilyaletdinov is fouled by Ivanovic outside the box. Howard Webb plays advantage when there was none, even though Everton still had the ball, and the attack breaks down.

77 min: That goal was the only decent thing Chelsea have done all half. And the second decent move since the break almost puts them in front. Another break as an Everton attack breaks down and Anelka let fly from the edge of the box, after cutting in from the left wing. Easy enough for Howard but after being on the canvas Chelsea have finally come out fighting again.

Goal 75 min: GOAL!! Everton 1 Chelsea 1
Out of nothing Chelsea are level. They didn't deserve that for a second but Kalou found himself on the edge of the box and without being closed down he just stroked a diagonal daisy cutter past the diving Howard and inside the far post.

74 min: Coleman almost ends this match but a combination of Essien and Cech manage to deny him not once but twice. Coleman lept over the back of Cole to meet a fierce cross to head at goal. Cech parried, Coleman had another chance but Essien threw himself across to deflect wide.

72 min: Lampard, who is having a dog of a game, also draws a cheer from the home crowd as he slides through a pass aimed at Anelka – I think – that would have embarrassed a pub player.

70 min: Coleman, who is having another fantastic game, gets a big cheer as he puts a crunching tackle in on Anelka to stop a promising Chelsea move. Chelsea are going to have to work to get back in this.

69 min: Everton painting pretty patterns with short pass and move down the line. Ancelotti has seen enough. The ineffective Malouda goes off to be replaced by Kalou.

67 min: Frustration and discontent are stalking this Chelsea team now. More petty free kicks conceded in dangerous areas. The latest from Lampard allows Arteta a strike at goal (from a long way out admittedly). No damage this time though as the Spaniard finds only the middle of the wall.

65 min: Essien and then Bosingwa try to get Chelsea motoring but the goal has put an extra spring in Everton steps and extra bite in their tackles. A touch excessive maybe. Fellaini body checks Ramires. Drogba doesn't like it. But still we don't see a yellow card. Good refereeing from Webb. Consistent at least.

64 min: Coleman clattered by Essien after the ball had gone for a needless free kick. Neville comes over to have a word with the referee about it. Glass houses and stones spring to mind.

63 min: Terry culpable for letting Saha go but Chelsea have been flat today from back to front, especially after the break.

Goal 61 min: GOAL!!! Everton 1 Chelsea 0
It's been coming. Another Everton dead ball – a Baines corner – is flung in to the box. It was beyond Cech but not Saha who timed his run perfectly to head home from six yards. Can't say they don't merit that.

60 min: Howard Webb must have left his cards at home today. After giving Neville as many free hits as he wanted in the first half now Ramires' assault on Arteta earns only a free kick and no more.

59 min: Game being played in the Chelsea half at the moment. And even when Chelsea nick possession they are giving Anelka and Drogba nothing to work with at all.

57 min: Another dead ball situation for Everton sees them try to isolate Bosingwa against Fellaini. The full back does a decent enough job of competing but the loose ball falls to Arteta. His effort from outside the box draws an oohhhh from the crowd but Cech didn't even flinch as it flew well wide.

55 min: Nothing from Chelsea this half. If I was Fernando Torres I would be giving this some serious thought. On this evidence Dirk Kuyt's delivery might not be all that bad.

53 min: Everton enjoying a spot of domination here. Baines got in a decent position to cross but fouled it up a touch. But not as badly as Cole who chased Coleman out for/of the box before needlessly tripping him to concede a free kick on the Everton right. Almost cost Chelsea dear. Arteta's delivery is perfect and Fellaini meets it but Cech was equal to it. All Everton at the moment.

51 min: It almost springs to life. A loose ball from Terry hands possession to Coleman whose neat reverse pass to Rodwell set him free. Forced wide inside the box he still managed to get his foot around a cross over Cech to Saha waiting at the back post. His volley was heading in but a glorious covering block from Ramires saved the day for the visitors.

50 min: The second period has followed the same, dull, beige pattern as the first, with some sloppy passing from Chelsea.

48 min: Elsewhere, they do have goals. Aston Villa have just gone 2-1 up against Blackburn, with Bobby Pires becoming the first octogenarian to score in the FA Cup, while Leyton Orient have just had their hopes dashed of an upset, Swansea equalising against them, the swines.

47 min: Early Everton corner is easily claimed by Cech before launching a Chelsea attack from deep that flounders when Essien over hits a diagonal 'Stevie G' pass. Oh dear, not a promising start to the second period.

46 min: After Chelsea make Everton wait for them out on the pitch we are up and running again.

13.25: I might be missing something, but why the hell are the ESPN team sat on the side of the pitch rather than in a studio? Stubbs, Keegan and Savage look frozen and as if someone has come and stolen a wall without them noticing.

HT: Everton 0 Chelsea 0

HT WRAP: Nothing to see here. or at least, very little. It's not a bad game just uneventful. Everton have set out to close down Chelsea in the middle and done a pretty good job of it. Chelsea have been restricted to a couple of half chances while Everton have looked more dangerous on the rare occasion they've got men forward to support Saha up front. Cech and Howard have made one decent save apiece but other than that goalmouth action has been hard to come by.

45+1 min: And that's your lot. Nothing to chose between the teams at the break.

45 min: Drogba lines up a 40 yard free kick to shoot at goal. It travels 10 yards before hitting Coleman's head in a two man wall.

43 min: A poor half comes to a conclusion in a flurry of activity. A neat move down the right involving Bosingwa and Anelka just fails to become something more by a deflection from Anelka's cut back from inside the box, before Saha gives it toes to get around the back of Ivanovic but again runs in to more trouble in the form of Terry. Arteta tried his luck from 30 yards and had Cech scrambling but the effort was a yard wide.

41 min: Saha sets off on a run but as the furthest man forward should have waited for back up rather than head straight in to trouble. Saha's instinct is always to head for goal whenever the ball comes to him but that isn't the lone striker's sole role and Everton are suffering because of it.

40 min: A lazy, clumsy foul by Drogba on the half way line gives Everton the chance to lump a ball in to the box but Ivanovic and Terry are winning those all ends up and it comes to nothing.

38 min: The Everton fans want a penalty with Terry all over Saha in the box. But nothing doing, the referee ruling that Saha was the one doing all the shoving.

37 min: Both teams seem content to let the tempo drop whenever possible, choosing to bide their time with considered possession. Chelsea in particular are guilty of failing to use it in any meaningful way.

35 min: Malouda tries his luck from distance (probably to avoid another bone cruncher from Neville). It tested Howard but was probably drifting just wide anyway.

33 min: Home fans appeal for a handball after a cross strikes Bosingwa's arm but nothing doing. Then, from the other flank, Coleman drives with purpose in to the Chelsea box but looses his footing as he went to shoot from a promising angle.

32 min: Hang on, we might have a game here after all. After half an hour of sparring the gloves have come off a touch and we are going end to end for a spell. Not before time.

30 min: Best chance of the afternoon. Ramires and Drogba work a one-two to create space on the half way line before Ramires plays a slide rule pass in to the path of Anelka. That's the ball Rodwell needed from Saha earlier. The result is the same though, with Anelka foiled by Howard rushing out of goal to block a shot he shouldn't have had any chance of reaching.

29 min: Neville is getting away with all sorts here. After two very meaty fouls on Malouda earlier he throws himself across Terry to block NFL style and only gets a quiet word from Howard Webb.

28 min: Lampard plays Anelka in behind the Everton back line before the striker whips a shot across Howard but against the far post. It was offside too.

27 min: Bilyaletdinov shoves Ivanovic out of the way to receive a cross on the penalty spot but even then can do no more than help it on to Cech.

26 min: First genuine chance. Fellaini put himself about to hassle the Chelsea defence, the ball broke to Saha who played in an onrushing Rodwell. The ball could have been better but Rodwell still had a one-on-one with Cech but found only the goalkeeper's legs.

24 min: Saha isn't having much joy working the Everton front line all on his own. Everton need him to be able to hold the ball up with his back to goal but on the rare occasion he is receiving possession he's giving it up far too cheaply.

22 min: Lampard turns in the middle and looks for space. Picks out Bosingwa on the run. He flicks it past one Everton man before Baines comes across to watch the ball out for a goal kick. If you want a defining passage of play to sum up this game that's it. Neither team doing much wrong. But really very little to see here.

21 min: Surging run from Drogba carries the ball deep in to Everton territory before he tries to beat one man to many. Malouda recycles possession and delivers a teasing ball across the six yard box that just eludes Drogba.

19 min: Coleman picks up possession in space in the middle and immediately spooks Chelsea and lifts the crowd. Everton allow men forward but Baines' delivery from the left lets the move down. As does the same player's corner.

17 min: Malouda fires a fizzing cross to the near post that Terry attacks on the angle to help it goalwards. A few inches lower and Howard was in trouble but in the end it flies harmlessly over the Everton bar.

16 min: Chelsea have a chance to deliver from a dead ball out wide on the left. Lampard whips it in but Rodwell meets it to concede a corner.

15 min: An Essien snap shot on the turn at a scuffed Ramires cross in to a crowded Everton box flashes well wide. As this game has gone the last three minute counts as a flurry of chances.

13 min: Half chance for Bilyaletdinov but he lacked the conviction or position to exploit it. A hopeful cross found space at Cech's near post for the Everton man to attack but he was always half a yard short and scuffed the effort that was easy for Cech to collect.

12 min: Biggest cheer from the home crowd so far. Cole tried to hook a clearance over his shoulder and only managed to kick the ball square in his own smug face.

11 min: Everton growing in confidence here and enjoying some good possession without really threatening the Chelsea goal.

09 min: Bosingwa ventures forward to offer Chelsea more width but Everton again quick to close him down, Fellaini and Bilyaletdinov combining to steal possession and launch a counter attack. Bilyaletdinov eventually popped up to cross from the right but Coleman was unable to make use of it. Where's Tim Cahill when you need him, eh? Oh yeah, he's in Qatar enjoying some sunshine.

07 min: Neville in particular is getting stuck in, primarily stuck in to Malouda's ankles. Twice the Everton captain has floored his man. No card yet but it's only a matter of time.

06 min: Still waiting for the blue touch paper to be lit here, neither team looking to force the pace. Everton are snapping at heels in midfield and Chelsea are being easily contained as a result.

05 min: Chelsea's first strike on goal is a soft one from Drogba, who opened his body and curved a gimme in to Howard's arms from outside the box. Maybe Chelsea should be looking for a more effective target man in these January sales, eh?

04 min: Cole and Cech play after you Claude in their own box which gives Arteta a sniff for a moment, but nothing more.

03 min: Saha, who looks like he fell asleep with his head marginally over the curb when they were painting yellow lines on his street, is the early target, playing up on his own. His dodgy barnet is going to see plenty of the ball if Everton's game plan is to work here.

01 min: Early chance for Everton to launch a free kick in to the box. Which they do, but Heitinga's cross is easily dealt with by Ivanovic. Everton were ahead in the 2009 final by now. A slightly more steady opening to this one.

12.30: Handshakes all round and in dappled sunlight we get started.

12.25: "To visit Goodison Park is to travel back in time," says a giddy Jon Champion on ESPN. We can, then, presumably look forward to an Andy Gray diving header at some point this afternoon, maybe, before he makes some sort of gesture towards a female in the crowd (probably serving behind the tea hut), in a way that was fun and knockabout way back when and not a sacking offence.

12.20: Team news

Everton: Howard, Neville, Heitinga, Distin, Baines, Coleman, Arteta, Fellaini, Rodwell, Bilyaletdinov, Saha.
Subs: Mucha, Hibbert, Jagielka, Beckford, Gueye, Osman, Baxter.

Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Lampard, Essien, Malouda, Drogba, Anelka.
Subs: Hilario, Mikel, Ferreira, Kalou, Bruma, McEachran, Sala.

Referee: Howard Webb (S Yorkshire)

12.00: Back in 2009 when these two teams last met in the FA Cup, an entertaining final that gave Guus Hiddink a parting gift from his short stay in English football, both Everton and Chelsea were in much better shape than they find themselves today.

Chronic lack of funds for David Moyes to patch up his threadbare squad, and Chelsea’s self imposed halt on major spending has left two squads struggling to achieve their contrasting ambitions.

Chelsea have had enough of all that and decided that trying to make the books balance isn’t working anymore. So it is they are poised to spend the thick end of £70m to sort out a leaky defence and misfiring attack. Everton are in the process of offloading squad members to try and scrape together enough pennies to fund a loan signing or two. How the other half live, eh?

Both plans have not been executed in time for today’s match, which means we are set for a pretty evenly matched contest in which both teams are desperate to salvage something from a disappointing season. Tension, nerves, desire and needle it is then. The perfect match to kick off the FA Cup fourth round weekend.

Everton beat Liverpool and Manchester United on the way to the final, meaning that if they defeat Chelsea on Saturday they will have overcome the top three sides in the Premier League to lift the trophy. "Each and every FA Cup game this season we have put a double shift in and we hope we will do the same in the final but it will be tough because they are one of the best teams in England," Pienaar ( Everton Players) said.

''Winning the FA Cup for the fifth time would be a big achievement in my life,'' Cole, who lifted the famous cup in 2002, 2003 and 2005 with Arsenal and with Chelsea in 2007. ''I wouldn't say winning the FA Cup would make it a terrific season because we're all still disappointed that we're out of the Champions League,'' added Cole. ''But hopefully the Cup final will be a decent end to the season. A club like Chelsea has to win silverware.''The final is set to be interim boss Guus Hiddink's last game in charge of Chelsea.

FA Cup Final 2009 Chelsea vs Everton 05/30/2009 Probably Formations :
Chelsea (probable, 4-3-3): Cech; Bosingwa, Alex, Terry, A Cole; Essien, Mikel, Lampard; Malouda, Drogba, Anelka.
Everton (probable, 4-4-1-1): Howard; Hibbert, Yobo, Lescott, Baines; Osman, Neville, Cahill, Pienaar; Fellaini; Saha.

FA Cup Final 2009 Chelsea vs Everton 05/30/2009 Touchline Duel (Guus Hiddink v David Moyes)
Hiddink bids farewell to Chelsea and English football for now and what a great way to finish. Hiddink loves the FA Cup and its tradition, and a man who took South Korea to the World Cup semi-finals is unlikely to be daunted by the occasion. Moyes, the Manager of the Year, continues to defy logic by nudging the elite and how Everton would love to take a trophy back to Merseyside a gloat over their neighbours.

FA Cup Final 2009 Chelsea vs Everton May 30 2009 Pitch Battle (Frank Lampard v Tim Cahill)
Two of the season's outstanding performers will meet in a fascinating midfield clash on the new, lush turf of Wembley. The stage is set for an enthralling encounter, with Lampard who is no stranger to the stadium, determined to finish an otherwise disappointing season with a trophy. Cahill was in the Millwall side beaten 3-0 by Manchester United in the final five years ago, in Cardiff, and will want to put that right.

FA Cup Final 2009 Everton Vs Chelsea 05/30/2009 Tactical Battle
With Jo cup-tied, Saha is set to lead Everton's attack. Marouane Fellaini is set to return, probably behind Saha, with Moyes banking on the 4-4-1-1 formation that has served Everton well all season. Hiddink must decide whether to recall Michael Ballack to midfield, but it seems likely that he will go again with a three-pronged attack, with both Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka potential match winners.
